So this is the last post that I’ll be doing using this WordPress blog. I’m a little nervous about moving over to Blogspot because I’ve grown so accustomed to the extremely user-friendly features of WordPress. But I’ve given it quite a bit of thought and I’d like to have a new layout for my blog. I’ll definitely miss using WordPress though because it’s got all these horribly addictive features such as the seemingly innocuous ‘Blog Stats’ that shows you how many readers have visited each day/ the websites people are coming from/ where people are going to from this site/ the most popular posts etc… which is so so so addictive! I remember at the start I couldn’t stop myself from checking every hour on the hour X) (Don’t learn from me kids.) Now perhaps I’ll be able to use that time more productively.

Thanks very much for reading my blog all this while and for the encouragement you’ve given me! It’s been a crazy experience for me — running around trying to find nice backgrounds for outfit shots, creeping around the house trying to take shots unnoticed by my family (which failed eventually), staying up till the wee hours of the morning blog hopping and checking out the latest collections… and I’m not ready to let it go.

Being the procrastinator that I am, I’m pretty sure you know how long it’ll take for me to transfer all the links over but rest assured that I’ll do so! Hope you guys won’t mind changing my link on your blogs.

Tis Serendipity

I know this may come as a sudden and swift surprise to you, but it’s been in my mind for awhile. I’ve decided to move back to blogspot. I’m still in the midst of fine-tuning it but rest assured it’ll be up within the next day or two. So I did sort of break my own mini-ban ;p not by working on new post but a new blog. I really should punish myself for the continued lack of work but I couldn’t resist. Sometimes you need to get things off your mind before you can focus on other stuff.

So I’m really hoping you guys will continue to read this blog even after it’s moved! =) It’ll be a lot easier to remember the blog address that’s for sure because this time I’m keeping it identical to the blog name to minimize confusion.

So I totally wouldn’t mind dressing up like this lady below every single day.

But then there’s the problem of that unwelcome stranger Reality checking in on me every morning the minute my eyes open to the shaft of sunlight creeping in. So most days I’m dressed in something like this.

I’d love to be able to spend way more time than I currently am capable of surfing the internet and keeping abreast of fashion week updates and goings-on but unfortunately the ever-increasing sense of guilt at the growing pile of work I have to catch up on is weighing me down. There are lots of great collections I’ll definitely be checking out and doing reviews on but that will probably have to wait till the weekend. I’ve browsed through a couple of collections and Rodarte, Miss Sixty, Marc by Marc Jacobs are among those that I’ve taken a liking to. Alexander Wang’s another incredible designer I’m really growing to love. But better coverage during the weekend.

Speaking of which, I’m in the midst of sorting out my extremely messy closet because my friend and I are going to be setting up a booth at a flea market this weekend where we’ll finally be able to try and recoup a modicum of our incredible losses incurred throughout these past months of shopping. I haven’t even gotten down to shoes yet and god knows I’ve got a ton of flats that will have to go. Am pretty excited about it actually I’m a huge fan of flea markets because 1. it’s a haven for the like-minded shopaholics 2. i’m a big fan of inexpensive goods 3. who can resist an afternoon of treasure-hunting 4. there’s just that inexplicable buzz that comes with the possibility of finding something just right for oneself. Will probably be trying on some outfits that I’ve never worn before (regrettably) but some of them were simply dud buys that I made on impulse when I wasn’t very sure of the kind of style I was into. Will try to take some shots of them over the next few days. To my fellow islanders, do go down to check out the flea market if you’ve got time! =) Am pretty sure it’ll be lots of fun.

For now though, I’m imposing a mini ban on posting for myself. The lovelyAnna has reminded me to…

I don’t know why my mind’s still on Valentine’s Day even though it’s already over but a few thoughts came to mind which I felt like sharing. (This is going to be a slight variation from normal posts but I thought I’d give it a try.)

V.day sparks off different emotions for different people, be it heady excitement at the possibility of opening a new chapter in one’s life/ a quiet, comforting celebration of feelings that have grown over the years but have not yet mellowed/ a feeling of loneliness watching couples through the window walking by… Whatever it means to you though, I think instead of merely being a celebration of love between couples, it should be a celebration of LOVE itself – all forms of love, between all sorts of people in any way that brings happiness to the people involved. If there’s a holiday for the new year, for the birth of countries, myths and folklores, the birth of oneself, then why shouldn’t there be a holiday celebrating what could possibly be viewed as the most powerful, mysterious, universal force in life?

It’s a timely reminder for all of us to love the people in our lives and equally importantly, to love ourselves. There are many (yours truly, included) who experience occasional bouts of low self-esteem, insecurity or general dissatisfaction with ourselves. If we don’t give ourselves a break from such thoughts, we’d never be able to live life happily to the fullest. So regardless of whether we’re single or not, it’s a good time to remind ourselves to embrace who we are, our independence, our ability to give and to love (with or without a man by our side).

So if you have the time today or in the days to come, why not…

1. Relax! Spend a quiet night at home in bed, reading a good book, watching some television or simply do nothing at all. Take the time to relieve any stress you might’ve experience throughout the day and simply… be.

2. Do something nice/give a few kind words to someone close to you. Kindness can be like an infusion of color to an otherwise gloomy day.

3. Do something childish and fun for a change! Meet up with a friend you haven’t seen in awhile and do something silly and mischevious.

4. Spend some quiet time alone to think about things in life and whether you’re headed in the direction you’d like to go. Being alone doesn’t make one a loner. It probably just means you’re better company than most of your friends

5. Give a hug and a kiss to the people who you love dearly in your life. There can never be too much love going around.

And after all this…

Here’s wishing everyone a week filled with love ahead. ~

I’ve got a thing for peep-toe booties.

And there’s something about that Nicholas Kirkwood pair that is so… geometrically perfect it makes my tummy go queasy… in an appreciative way.

(Who on earth gets to take their kid to fashion week!!?? I am beyond envy, yearning and disbelief!)

I know this is a little late, but Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

The boy surprised me so much by delivering a beautiful bouquet of flowers to my doorstep at night. We’d just gone for dinner at a cafe near my house and when we returned home at about 9pm, I saw a lady waiting in a car outside my house. Was rather perturbed but didn’t think much until after going into the house, I saw her loitering outside so when I asked her if anything was the matter, she presented the bouquet of roses to me. =) If you’re reading this, thanks love, for making it such an unforgettable night.


So my V.day this year was one of roses, a failed cake attempt, shepherd’s pie & fish and chips, bus rides together and feeling thankful for many many things in life. How was yours? =)

My apologies to all those currently on a diet or who do not have any food in the nearby vicinity to quell their hunger but I couldn’t help it. =) I was extremely bored during a lecture on friday and after googling ’strawberry spongecake’, I stumbled upon this fantastic food site with the most drool-worthy pictures of food. It was an incredible distraction to the people sitting around me I think X)

I’ve never explored baking sites/forums very much but I feel very much inspired to do so after browsing through this site. What’s good would have to be the discussions that ensue after a recipe is posted because then you can always read through the thread, see where people have gone wrong in their baking and then learn from them before even starting. I wanted to do something special for the boy so instead of the usual cookies, I decided to try this.

Here are some photos of the baking process that took place at around midnight on saturday (because we had planned on meeting up today instead of Vday itself).


Doesn’t look to bad right? Unfortunately the inside was pretty terrible! And we only found out today when we sliced it open for a bite. I’m not too sure what went wrong actually because it looked fine on the outside but it was almost a rubbery texture on the inside! I think it’s got to do with not being very sure of how our new oven works (because my mum faced the exact same problem with her chiffon cake yesterday ;p) but oh well they don’t say third time’s the charm for nothing.

So how was Valentine’s Day for everyone? Am looking forward to finding out what everyone had for their Valentine’s Day! Chocolates, candies, cupcakes?

Some might let this day slip by just like any other day of the year but I prefer to imbue some meaning and celebration into it. This editorial is pretty old but I couldn’t help thinking about it. It’s still one of the loveliest editorials I’ve come across (speaks to my teenage soul) and what could be better than living it up in Venice with killer clothes (and gorgeous beau at hand)?

Certain things about this editorial that I love:
1. the Alexander Wang knit vest Sigita’s wearing in the 2nd photo
2. the mix of plush, frilled tops with statement gold necklaces
3. the See by Chloé dress and Yves Saint Laurent t-strap sandals on Sigita in the 4th photo
4. pairing edgy black vinyl leggings with a feathered frock
5. well starched white collared shirts with fitted vests and gold accents
6. the expression on Gabe’s face as he cups Sigita’s forehead gently with his hand. everything about that photo is just sweet.

(Ethereal as it may seem, I’m pretty sure there must’ve been some accidents while shooting the photo with the pigeons ;p I’d love to know the real truth – what goes on behind the scenes at photoshoots someday)

So his name is Francesco and I found him on Garancedore. That’s about all the information I have on him as of now. I hope the boy doesn’t see this post, but I can’t help it, this guy is absolutely adorable. ;p

I can imagine him returning home each day to a huge but well organized closet filled to the brim with blazers of all colors, shapes and designs (color coordinated, no less). I love his use of color in layering on the blazer and cardigan in the first photo and notice the little creature sticking out of his coat pocket. If that doesn’t reveal a little of his quirky character I don’t know what else would. Each item in all of his outfits is of a different color, pattern, texture and he’s put them together such that the differences are subtle yet eye-catching and point towards innate style and sophistication. Wouldn’t we all love the men in our life to dress with such panache?

Wonder what his plans are for V-day…

I know I proclaimed my current love to be these a few days ago but in life love and affection is often capricious, especially in the world of fashion.

So this dorothy perkins checkered scarf was bought a couple of weeks back in Bugis but I’ve been a little too shy about wearing it to school because if I did, would it be more polite to take it off during lecture as one would a hat in an act of respect to the lecturer? But then doing so would make the outfit incomplete and it would be pretty troublesome to put it on just for lunch only to take it off again upon returning to class. I haven’t really worn many scarves here since it does add additional unnecessary warmth (and god knows we don’t need any more heat in this city) so I’m not too sure about scarf etiquette. To those who wear scarves on a regular basis, perhaps to school or to town/ for those who live in colder climates, what do you normally do if you choose to wear a scarf to school? I’d love to hear from you about this ;p

One thing I love about the boy is that he accepts (though he probably doesn’t always completely understand) my love for clothes and fashion. It’s something that developed gradually over the past year and some friends from secondary school I meet up with only once in awhile commented about that particular change in me. It’s usually when faced with those whom I’ve grown up with that I’ll be a little more reserved in what I wear because after all they’re familiar with a certain part of me that may not be present anymore. Change is always better in small doses I should think. So when I think of trying out new outfits, I’m pretty grateful with the knowledge that at least the boy wouldn’t give that shocked, ‘that’s not you’ expression that a couple of old friends tend to give. While he might not always appreciate the thought process behind an outfit I’ve put on for the day, I’m glad he knows that ‘we’ are all people changing every minute of each day and there’s no such thing as a static, unchanging ‘you’ who should be confined to the person you were a certain point in life in the past. That was a bit of a digression but in a nutshell, I haven’t had the guts to wear that scarf to school yet so I think I’ll be trying it out with the boy first to build up some confidence.


The scarf trend seems to have its ebb and flows in terms of popularity but I’m glad it’s getting a little more common here. On a trip to Hong Kong last year I noticed a whole lot of colored checkered square scarves (similar in size to the one I wore) but a little thicker, in a range of colors (some hot pink, acid green ones too) that have finally made their way here. Wonder if it’ll catch on and get incorporated into streetstyle here anytime soon. In the meantime, there’s always the sartorialist for inspiration.
